This carving shows the varying terrain of the state of Tennessee and features the line of Appalachian peaks that form portions of the border with North Carolina. It is carved into solid cherry and mounted into a walnut piece that is itself mounted to another piece of walnut via two copper pipes. Wooden pieces featuring bark (wane) like this are rare. It was branded by the artist before applying a finish of oil and wax.
