This carving shows the terrain of the Smoky Mountains National Park and features the line of Appalachian peaks that forms portions of the border between Tennessee and North Carolina. It is carved into solid curly maple and is mounted onto a second maple piece using a short section of copper tubing. It was branded by the artist before applying a finish of lacquer.
