Hound Yogi - handmade original woodcut

"Hound Yogi' is the leader and spiritual advisor of all the hounds in the Hound Yoga series. Yogi loves to meditate and is comfortable in her own skin. You might think she is just napping, but open a cheese stick and you will learn how alert she really is.

This original handmade woodcut print was created from a single block in a limited edition of 24 prints.  This design is impressed onto a thin 50gsm bleached Japanese mulberry paper that has a subtle translucency and gives a feeling of lightness and fragility, though the paper is tough enough that is cannot be easily torn. The edges of this print are cut, not deckled. The pigments are Cranfield oil-based relief inks with strong color fastness. The dimensions of the print are 10"x8", and will fit into a standard 8x10 frame without a mat, or into an 11x14 frame with a mat. The print is numbered, titled, and signed on the bottom front. The first step in the process was to remove from the wood plank all of the material that appears white in the image. Then the brown ink was applied to the remaining wood relief and pressed by hand onto bleached Japanese mulberry paper. Every print in the edition must be printed with the first color before the block can be prepared for the second color. While that brown ink is drying the areas of the block that are to stay brown are carved away from the block, leaving only the areas that will be inked in black. The block has now been reduced and cannot be used to print the brown areas again. There is no going back! Mess up a print now and it is lost from the edition. The block is inked with the black color and again pressed by hand to each of the prints. Any misalignment will be a mistake and the print thrown away. Once all of the prints are complete, the block is finished and is recycled (used for kindling).
